When Girish Ch. Ghosh founded a manufacturing and service-providing company in West Bengal in 1874, could he have imagined that his vision would continue to thrive for more than one and a half centuries and evolve into one of India’s most respected names in weighing and calibration?
In the British era, Girish Ch. Ghosh started his business under the name M/s Girish Ch. Ghosh, as a manufacturer and seller of Beam Scales (Class-B.C.D), operating from 37 B.T. Road, Kolkata-700002, with a showroom at 161 Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road, Rajakatra, Burabazar, Kolkata-700007.
During this period, a wide variety of weighing scales and certified weights were supplied to prestigious institutions such as the Government Mint, Railways, F.C.I., and other key public sectors, laying a strong foundation of trust and quality.
The business steadily grew through the manufacturing of beam scales of various types. B-Class beam scales were supplied extensively to jewellery establishments, and the company obtained a repairing license across West Bengal for testing C.I. weights and bullion weights.
Growth, Diversification & Expansion
As industries evolved, so did we. The company expanded into the weighing-scale segment by manufacturing mechanical weighing machines, repairing weighbridges, and carrying out weighbridge conversions for factories and public weighbridges throughout West Bengal.
With the advancement of technology, we gradually introduced electronic weighing machines and extended our expertise to the repair and servicing of oil flow meters, further strengthening our technical capabilities.
We obtained an official license from the Government of West Bengal for calibration work in liquid storage tanks. Over time, our operations expanded beyond the state, reaching Odisha, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and several other regions across India.
The company became an approved and trusted vendor for leading organizations including IOC, BPCL, HPCL, Tata, Reliance, and many other major industrial houses. Today, we are widely recognized as a “Complete Weighing Solution” provider in the weighing and calibration industry.

Established in 1874, M/s Girish Chandra Ghosh later encountered succession-related challenges. Following a formal legal partition during 1972–73, the organization was restructured into two separate entities: M/s Girish Chandra Ghosh & G.G.S and M/s Girish Chandra Ghosh & Co.
M/s Girish Chandra Ghosh & Co. carried out business activities for a limited period, primarily engaged in the manufacture and repair of beam scales and weights. Subsequently, the entity surrendered its license and discontinued operations.

Under the leadership of Sujit Ghosh and Jyotsna Ghosh, the company achieved significant milestones and growth. Currently, under the stewardship of Supriyo Ghosh, the fifth-generation heir and Managing Partner, M/s Girish Chandra Ghosh & G.G.S proudly commemorates its 150th year since inception.

Today, we proudly introduce ourselves as one of India’s leading calibrators of all types of liquid storage tanks, a leading manufacturer, repairer, and maintenance contractor of electronic and mechanical weighing machines in West Bengal, and a certified manufacturer and supplier of liquor measures stamped by the Legal Metrology Department, Government of West Bengal.
We undertake calibration and re-calibration of storage tanks strictly in accordance with relevant Indian Standards and international codes. Our computerized calibration charts help clients meet statutory obligations, identify gains or losses in trade, control storage and distribution losses, and support ISO audit requirements.
Our services incorporate modern, OIML-approved technologies such as laser distance ranging, optical triangulation, electro-optical measurement methods, tank settlement and roundness surveys, NDT consultancy, inspection, and isometric layout drawings.
